Introducing RealGels: the power of dramatic lighting at your fingertips

RealGels is a series of lights with attached gels that are designed to work with the Reality plug-in for DAZ Studio. For more information about the plug-in please see the Reality product page

RealGels are made to help you create dramatic lighting in minutes. A gel, in photography, is a semi-transparent film that is placed in front of a light to change the effect of that light on the scene.

RealGels are made to combine the effect of photographic gels and cutouts (gobos) to give you an extreme level of sophistication with the least amount of work.

RealGels Volume 1 include 10 different patterns. Some have colors, others are meant to be used with colored lights. Take a look at the sample scenes to see examples of usage with different tints of light.

RealGels are the easiest way of adding this kind of light to your Reality scene. Simply add the light from Studio’s Content tab, positioning it to your liking, and call Reality for a beautiful render. In many situations a single light is all that you need and it will render quickly.

With RealGels you can move the gel closer or further away from the light to adjust the effect of the gel on your scene, the amount of blurriness of the patterns, and the rotation or angle of the gel. You can do all this independently from the light position.

They are going through the final stage of DAZ processing, will be released any day now.

    Thank you for your interest.

  3. Thanks, will be keeping an eye out for them :-) )

  4. Damn…..Just spotted these Paulo..they look awesome. I have not bothered with Gel Lights in the past as I tended to adjust all my lighting in Photoshop straight from Daz.
But, now I use Reality all the time I rarely spend much time in Photoshop…..so, these will suit me fine.

They look great. Bought them as soon as I saw they were available, only trouble is I can’t get them to work. I’m sure it is something ridiculously simple I’m not doing. Any help/suggestions would be greatfully recieved

    Regards John.

John, check your version of Studio. The gels require 3.1.2.32 or higher

    Hi Paulo
Thanks for the reply. I am using that version of Daz. I have sort of got them woring by dropping the transparency of the gels but my results are not great, but I am persevering. Still sure it is something simple I’m missing. When will the update to 1.2 be available in Daz?
    regards
    John

    Hi John.
There should be no need to act on the transparency since the gels are made of glass. They do require Reality 1.2, they don’t work with version 1.0. Reality 1.2 has been out since the beginning if March. To upgrade you simply need to reset your download in your DAZ account and redownload it.

    Cheers.

They are not gone, I’m in the process of repackaging them for Renderosity. They will be available soon.
Thank you for your interest and patience.
