Reality 2.1 has been released

The update to Reality 2, version 2.1.1.108, has been released today. To install this update you simply have to close Studio and restart it. At startup Reality will detect the new version and it will give you a button to use to start the download of the new installer. Upon pressing the “Upgrade…” button your Web browser will be called with the link for the download. Once the file has been downloaded you simply need to re-install Reality with the new installer. Please be sure to quit Studio before doing that.

If you use Firewall/AntiVirus software please make sure that they allow Studio to connect to the Net.

Cheers.

Restarted studio. . No update :(

  2. Opened up DS4, quit it, then restarted it. Upgrade window showed up the second time and I’m downloading the upgrade right now. Thanks, Paolo!

    Thank you, Paolo !
Got a shout from Reality of the update when launched Studio and install of update worked exactly as you describe.

  6. Downloaded the update 2.1.1.108 zip file but when unzipped it was the Reality_2_0_DS4-32.exe which is the same as the one I have already installed. Nevertheless, I ran the installer and sure enough when I opened DAZ I was once again reminded that an update was ready for download. Please help!

  7. Got the same problem as Karen…

The name of the installer has not changed but if you look at the name of the archive it does say 2.1.

  9. I have installed the update but opening DS pop up the update window again, It report I have installed again the 2.0.1.132 :(
Beside I got an error: Cant’t find variable: ReLuxManager, when i try to render the frame.

Roberto, that means that you actually didn’t install the update correctly. Please delete the plugins/Reality and scripts/Reality folders and run the installer again. Be sure to check the destination path when you install Reality. It must be the directory where Studio is installed.

  11. I found that all I had to do was:
    1. close DS4
    2. run the installer
    3. open DS4.
    good to go.

but if you have DS4 open when installing – you won’t see the upgrade.

Awesome updates, thanks a lot, Paolo! Got my metals working too :)

One thing I’d REALLY REALLY REALLY like to see, though, is a way to “invert” mesh lights, such as if I use a globe/dome/sphere as a sky (just blue) with a cloud dome (with transmaps to make the clouds cast normal shadows), I want to be able to turn the “sky” light on along with the sun (sphere) to cast cloud shadows naturally… am trying to make a way for a more realistic “sky with sun” scene that you can move around (sun, clouds) and change colors (sunset, night, etc…) instead of just bland background textures.

“Reverse Normals” is what LuxRenderDS (the free converter for DS3) calls it and I loved it, I was in the middle of studying this way back before my hard drive crashed a few months ago (and lost everything).

What do you say, nice idea?

Actually, I just found a “cheat” way… instead of the size (for example) 1600, if I make the size negative (-1600), then the “outer” part of the layer will be inner instead, thus the light shining inward instead of outward.

Now I have a sky that lights up :)

Still would be a nice feature for people not really knowledgeable in this area…

jamminwolf, you can turn a skydome into a light right now. I have done it a few time. Just right click on the material and select “Convert to light”.

You’re right, and I wasn’t thinking about skydomes that have their UV maps facing inward. I’ve been fooling around with the DS default spheres, loading maps onto them and wasn’t thinking lol :) Got a sweet render going now with a “special” sun (with a “fade out” transmap I made to make it look more natural), the sky, and transmapped clouds, gonna load it in the Lux forum (general discussion) and display some ideas I have in mind about the sun and clouds.
