Reality 2.11.2.120 released
A new series of updates for Reality 2 has been just released.
Here is the detailed description of what has changed:
- Fixed Multi-Edit when running Reality under DS3
- Fixed conversion of Genesis materials to Lights.
- Fixed the resetting of the value for multi-faceted subdivision. Previously selecting a material with multifaceted subdivision would automatically reset the value to 8.
- Fixed bug 432. This is about the Velvet material not being supported by SLG. It’s now converted by Reality to Matte so the scene renders without issues.
- Added new “Invert direction” option to the mesh lights. This is useful when using skydomes or to turn a container into light source. Sometimes you need to use an object as a light but the way it’s modeled prevents it because the normals of the object are pointing in the “wrong” direction. With this feature you can simply invert the direction of the light emitted by the object.
- Added “Max depth” and “Max Photon Depth” parameters for the Photon Map scene type. This allows you to fine tune those parameters for scene with higher complexity.
- Added automatic adjustment of the default Diffuse color. Now if the Studio material is set to use pure white (255,255,255) Reality adjusts the color to be an off-white (220,220, 220). This results in both more realistic results and faster, less noisy rendering.
- Added automatic adjustment of the default Glossiness strength. Now if the Studio material is set to use full specular (10000) Reality adjusts the color to be slightly less: 9900. This results in both more realistic results and faster, less noisy rendering.
- Mac OS Installer: a check is done now to verify that the location selected for the installation is valid. The location is checked to include DAZ Studio.
- Windows installer: the accidental addition of “DAZStudio3″ or “DAZStudio4″ to the location selected has been removed.
- Improved reliability of the automatic updater. This will be visible with the next update.
To obtain the update you can simply restart DAZ Studio, Reality will show you a message about the new build being ready. Alternatively you can use the Product Download Page.
Enjoy!

Hey jamminwolf
A good idea is a good idea. Thank you for suggesting it.
Cheers.
How does it works?? I mean… I read that using “skydomes” with Reality was a “bad idea”…
Thanks for the update and fixing my download issue so quickly – the customer service from Pret-a-3d is just great!
Cheers,
Mike
Hi
I was wondering would the updates to reality affect how my luxconsole works. I use to be able to connect to two other computers up to the one running Daz and reality but now all I get is can’t connect to the computer. nothing else has changed. but now I can’t render on the network. any thoughts or help .
thanks
Glenn
MCMXC, it is a bad idea, it’s probably several times slower than using IBL, but you can use them since version 2.0 because you can turn them into lights with textures. If the skydome doesn’t work initially because it was modelled with normals pointing out, simply invert the direction of the light in the light editor.
Glenn, there is nothing in Reality that prevents network rendering. Most likely the two versions of Lux that you use don’t match.
Hi,
I need help from the software producer. My installer upgrade 2.11.2.120 doesn’t work. I receive a message about the impossibility of installation of the upgrade. I have Daz Studio Pro 64 on Mac Os Lion. I have Reality 2.0 on my computer and I use it without any problem. It’s not the first automatic update for me, so I think there’s a problem in the installer. i have tried to download the installer again from the Reality web site, but the problem is the same.
Fabio, if the installer run but ends with an error message it simply means that you are pointing it to a location that doesn’t contain Studio. Re-run it and set the destination folder to where Studio is installed and it will work.
Thank you very much! I have installed it properly.
At first run the update did not install on my Win 7 64-bit, even when running as admin.
But, after re-booting – it did.
Thank you, Paolo !

Actually a skydome is pretty much a good idea to me, since I do outside renders, I want clouds and the sky lit up. I don’t like IDL and images it uses, you can’t re-size them and you have only limited choice (wherever you find them). When I put a skydome up and an IDL with an image, IDL image took over. The look of the “environment” color looks nice, but the background, a big nay. As for putting up a background cloud textures, nay also, chances are you’ll get shadows casted onto or casted from. And there’s no way I’m using Luxrender’s “sky” lol, talk about low quality and ugly lol.
It may be slower, but I’ve gotten some pretty nice results (unfortunately I messed up on the water and found out many hours later so I didn’t bother with Lux for a while). Here’s two examples (but from the other convertor) http://jamminwolfie.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d49d1bi http://jamminwolfie.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d48dl9v
What would be your suggestion, Paolo?
