Reality and the Genesis Supersuit

The new Genesis Supersuit is quite the success among Studio users. Like all Genesis products it does not work in Poser.

I’m reading that this product also requires a lot of manual work to render it via Reality.

It seems that DAZ has not provided working shaders for using this product with Reality, which is quite surprising.

DAZ has used Reality internally for a long time. While Reality tries hard to convert Studio shaders automatically it’s important to know that Lux’s shaders are much different. If a product makes use of shading techniques that address specifically the 3Delight rendering pipeline there is not much that can be done by anybody to convert those shaders. The author of the product has to address this issue.

Given the large installed base of Reality it’s the role of PAs to make sure that their product works with Reality. I suggest that all the users of the Supersuit contact DAZ with a technical support request and specifically with a request for ACSEL shaders for the suit. The ACSEL Share catalog is open to anybody and DAZ can simply prepare and share ACSEL shaders for this product and share them using the Reality built-in facilities.

Until PAs, in this case DAZ, hear the complaints from the customers, though, it’s unlikely that they will act in the right direction.

Thanks for the information Paolo. As someone who uses Reality as the preferred tool for all my renders this comes as very discouraging news indeed. I will most certainly contact DAZ about the absence of Reality support in the Genesis Supersuit. I have been totally unimpressed with the direction DAZ has taken of late. In my opinion the new website is a disaster. Prices have risen on just about everything. I just don’t visit the store or the forums as much anymore. On the other hand I have come to value and appreciate the Reality brand and your efforts to provide a quality product at a reasonable cost. And just as important your product support is first class. Pardon the rant but the direction DAZ has taken lately has not been at all good. Just my opinion but there it is.

    Ciao…

      Hi Kurt.
Thank you for the kind words, they are very much appreciated.
I too have been disappointed by the recent events at DAZ. It’s sad to see this happening and I hope the series of “stumbles” are temporary. I hope also that DAZ reconsiders its position about Genesis and works on making it available for Poser.
The Supersuit has been in development for months and in all this time DAZ has made no attempt to contact me to work together on a solution that works with Reality. I don’t want to jump to conclusions but this event doesn’t demonstrate a will to cooperate with vendors in the Studio ecosystem. I hope that in the future DAZ will be more cooperative.

      All the best.

Reading the handwriting on the wall….it seems that Daz may be planning on making its own plugin or cutting a deal with Lux Render for a plug-in. I have no evidence for this, of course.

I just used 2 of the supersuit shaders on a imported prop from Poser, and they came out fine in Reality? (they came with the base supersuit, a linnen type and a leather type) Are there specific ones that are not working?

  4. After the suit itself was created, I personally designed most of the costume configurations and shaders and I can tell you it was all I could do to get them done under the deadline. There was no possible way I could have done the ACSEL versions.

The odds of getting ACSEL support are close to zero.

Many of you have heard that I am not at DAZ anymore. I can no longer “help” from within.

I can tell you that there was no initiative to replace Reality as of the time i left (June 1)

You may want to watch an up-and-comer though… in the form of Octane.

i dont think anyone in the customer base would pay the amount of money needed to justify the conversion of all the supersuit materials to ACSEL the man hours would be tremendous.

      Hi Randall.
Thank you for the explanation. About Octane, it has been sold to another company and its future is not very clear at the moment. Even in tha case it would continue, Octane is more a competitor of SLG than Lux. Octane is lacking the full physics support and many other features that are part of Lux. Besides, I’m not exactly resting on my laurels ;)

      Cheers.
