I have always been impressed by the results some photographers can get using a camera mounted ring-light so I decided to make my own version of a ring-light for use with Reality.
The prop I made consists 4 surfaces: housing, reflector, tube-light and diffuser. I converted the material for the tube-light into a light source in the Reality interface and then played about with the material settings for the reflector and the diffuser.
The image below is a basic 2 light set-up: small Reality softbox beauty light that is in-line with the camera and model and pointing down at about 45deg and the home-made ring-light that is ‘attached to the camera lens’.
As soon as I figure out how to turn the ring-light into a shareable ‘product’ (at the moment it is just a .DAZ file) I will post it to ShareCG so others can play with it.

I tried to do this by using a taurus primitive and converting it into a light object via Reality, but I didn't get nearly as good of an effect as this. Please keep us updated, Mike! This would be very useful to many of us.
Thanks!

Will this be for sale at some point or is there a place we can download it? I would love to give this a try.

Kimberly58 – I will be posting it on ShareCG shortly (with luck later this week). I will place a link to it here (assuming the site admin guys don't mind).
cheers, Mike

Here is the download at ShareCG:
http://www.ShareCG.com/v/59581…..Ds-Reality
The Readme/Instructions in the ZIP file are a little on the basic side so when I get a chance I'll post a few illustrated instructions to make things a little clearer.
If the Admin guys are ok with it then I'm happy to answer questions posted to this thread.
cheers
Mike

Thanks for making this, Mike. I really wanna get a chance to play with it "soon".

Paolo, I don't know if you've seen the Lightsmith Collection over in the sIBL Archive page here: http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html
I haven't looked at these, but I had been wondering for a long time if they could be used in a similar fashion to what Mike has done with his Ring Light. Any thoughts?

Joe-B-Wan, yes, those would work but they are hard to use because they don't map to the IBL sphere and they create gigantic lights. It would be easier to create a similar texture for the meshlight and use it there.

Downloading this now, looks like a very usual tool… thanks Mike!
Just to make sure I'm doing this right… what path do I install this to? I'm using Daz Studio 4 Pro
