Foam and Suds Presets

Postby DeviantShade » Sat Jan 20, 2018 4:21 pm

I'm trying to create realistic looking foam and soap suds in Reality. Any suggestions on what material settings I can use to achieve this effect?

hmm, that is a tough one.

It will require more than just material settings. One way would be to use geometry shells with suitable foam and transparency textures to emulate the stuff and I guess the trick is to find good textures to use. If you are proficient in Blender or other modelling tools you might be able to produce some suitable geometry. Marcel might have some pointers in this area.

FYI - the Iray Soap Suds from SimonWM and Dega in the DAZ store don't work in Reality out of the box. I'll try to figure out some settings for Reality when I can, but I'm still not great at material settings. Reality also chokes on the bubble props. Lux renders one beautifully, but says it can't find a particular instance and you only get one bubble. There are also a lot of opacity maps that Luxrender complains about not finding in the DAZ Studio tmp folder. When I look in that folder, the files are there, but they have different name, e.g. D8.I'm not giving up on it, but it may take some time to get back to it.

I've also seen some tutorials on making procedural soap sud and foam textures in Substance Designer, but I don't know how well that maps to Reality and/or Lux.

I've been using the Soap Suds by SimonVM. But when the suds look plastic and too solid (if that makes any sense). I tried adjusting Translucency and Glossiness but haven't had much luck so far.

There is Foam & Soap for V4 and G3 and is made by powerage at renderosity.
It works amazingly well with Luxrender.
this would be funny if it weren't happening to me

Let me think about a good approach, best to do bitmap textures and opacity. i come back to this later.
