The Light Emitter

Setting up Light emitters is very easy and can be used for multiple uses.

A nice example is a TV screen, laptop or monitor.
The advantage of emitting, you can see the underlying texture, it will be intact. nice for Screens and al that needs light. syfy Suits with al kinds of control lights. (Tron)
If you look at your screen and directly in front of your screen, you will see that your screen is illuminating light. It is not much, but it does.

How to set this up.
First set up your scene
The laptop can be downloaded HERE!
I used the Reality studio cube
you do not need to set up any mesh lights for this small tutorial.
The emitted light is all we need for this scene
select screen.png

open up Reality and go to materials tab.
Select the screen material. If it is glass, change it to glossy.
then in Diffuse choose your screen capture or another texture.

Then go to modifiers tab and under geometry you will find light emission.
Select the tiny box that says light emission
then go to texture and select the same texture map as you did with the diffuse.
This will make sure that the emitted light is the same as on the screen of your monitor.

Start rendering and then play around with the light

See the result!

A fireplace
Use in Opacity Tab the same flame texture, make sure that u use a fire picture photographed against a real black background.

That's really all to it.

You can see a video tutorial here

Just to clarify:

- In the emission texture, click on the gear menu and select "Use Existing..."
- Select the same texture for the Diffuse channel. Look in the "Channel" column and select the texture that has "Diffuse" in that column

Cheers.

I learned something new today. Thanks!

I didn't like the laptop you linked to, so I bought my own from Renderosity for $8.00. Now I have a computer prop for office themes. :)

I used the same Light Emission function in Reality's Modifiers tab to make the keyboard outline emit a blue glow, and add white function lights along the top edge of the keyboard. The computer screen, keyboard outline, and function lights are the only light sources. I added a 10-ft square plane primitive to the scene, to give the light from the screen something to bounce off of. The image map is a 2560 x 1440 screenshot of my desktop with DAZ Studo open.

In the emission channel, you create a Color texture and set it to the desired color.
