Beginner Material Question

Postby SNOWWHISPERS » Sun Jul 10, 2016 2:25 pm

How would I make something more like suede? I'm using the Fire Princess outfit and I want to make the boots leather, and the pants and the armour top like a suede. So far its the only thing that Iray seems to be doing okay at. I would much rather be using Reality but I haven't used it since 1.25 so I have no idea how to do this. Is there a leather/suede tutorial around somewhere? It seems like a material a lot of people would be using.

I would go for a very good texture map.
The underplaying layer is matte and above layer is glossy. To do this without texture maps is, in my opinion insane.but if you could pull this off, you are the hero. I would go for a texture map and give it a light gloss.

this would be funny if it weren't happening to me

Maybe I am over complicating things but this seems like an instance where the use of geometry shells transparency maps and opacity levels could help create the effect of a top and bottom layer with varied levels of gloss. Still going to need good diffuse maps of course. I feel the geometry shell is an often underutilized tool.
