How to bring realism into glass

Postby Marcel2586 » Sat Oct 22, 2016 9:16 am

How can we cheat with Reality and use texture layers with glass
Did you ever looked at a wine glass closely how it looks?
Did you ever looked closely at your window in the living room.
Did you notice sand and dust on your window and if you have small children, fingerprints all over the glass?
And do you want to bring reality into your renders?
Then read the Adobe PDF file.
This should also work for surfaces that needs dust and scratches.
This is a quick setup so do not judge my tutorial while comparing my render with that of Andrew Price.

This is made by Andrew Price from Blender guru

Here is my attempt to do this.

Good tutorial!

Using decals/textures on glass rendered in Luxrender is actually quite difficult, as you have found out, and using a geometry shell is probably the easiest way of achieving the effects. I don't really see it as cheating, since it is basically just adding another geometry layer.

You might want to add some information about what type of glass material you selected and your render mode. The latter is actually important, since Volumetric glass does not work at all in the accelerated modes.

By the way is the Andrew Price artwork from one of his you-tube tutorials? - I would be interested in watching it, if that is the case.

Sigstan, good you mentioned it, i will edit the PDF and reupload it.
And yes it is the same man as the tutorials. And the render is from his paid (poliigon) texture site.
this would be funny if it weren't happening to me
