Commercial render farms?

Postby RLSprouse » Fri Apr 29, 2016 2:33 pm

Hi all:

I have been frustrated by the slow speed of rendering with Luxrender on my iMac 27" system, to the point that I have almost lost interest in doing 3D graphics. I am wondering if any of you have experience using any of the commercial render services, and how well that works. Does anyone have any guidance or recommendations?

Thanks.

I am currently running my own render farm, out of my older machines, mostly 4-core AMD's ..
Recently I bought via Ebay, the parts for a an actual server..
2x5670 cpu's 6core cpu's
Supermicro Mobo
40gb Memory ECC
then picked up everything else locally, HD's PSy, case..
Cost me about 500$ total, and it's a beast.. I dont really need anything else now, but I still throw all my other machines on for final renders.

For what it is worth, I have just signed up for a service called pixelplow, and hope to give it a try very soon. I will let you all know how it works out.

I remember seeing one of these before, maybe you can check them out...

There are more free render farms for blender, but I'm not really into converting stuff to other programs... since I've had much difficulty with Maya/3dmax to and from Daz ..

@RLSprouse, have you tried pixelplow yet? Any feedback? Thinking of signing up myself

I could not make it work, so I gave up for the time being. It is probably my own ignorance, so you may be able to make it work. If so, or if anyone has a recommendation for a commercial service that works, I'd be very interested in hearing about it.

Renderstreet https://render.st/ is set up to render Luxrender and Daz Studio. They give you a $25 starter fee - it works well.

You have to login and set up an account to get to the DS and Luxrender "how to".
