Using Camera inside a Volume for atmosphere renders

Postby Rivaliant » Sun Apr 08, 2018 8:57 am

o~k so

Uh, i'm not sure if there is a method in Reality that i'm missing

But inorder to get a camera to render a volume while its inside it, say a null cube for atmospheric light rays

you need to have

Code: Select all

Exterior "name of your volume"

in the .LXS file, preferably after the volume segment
so right before

Code: Select all

WorldEnd

line at the end of file

i was looking reasons why i couldn't get a fog volume to work when the camera was placed inside a null shape for it

turns out the Camera needs to have its exterior as the volume you intend to use
according to the Luxforums

I'm not sure what this means by setting this

Code: Select all

Exterior "name of your volume"

in the world segment, does this mean that the world scene now has Just a infinite sized volume or does it mean that the camera is told that outside its 'lens' is the volume and Not a vacuum, which overwrites the null shaped volume because its set as an interior?

Then in that case, can i just set any one surface that has an interior volume (such as the character model) and it will produce the same results?

Edit: further testing

also, the blend file i found in the Luxforums about this

The same Exterior line on the light in the scene
I moved the Volumes code before anything in the scene after WorldBegin
Because the placement of that information needs to come before its use in the coding

and it worked

setting the Light it self with an exterior to the volume also allows you to use the light inside the volume
the problem i was having was this bar scene i'm using

you can see the light ray in the mirror that's part of the scene, but not it its self in the camera's viewport

so a guess I have some suggestions on a Reality update

Option to set a World Exterior volume selection

Option to set lights with Exterior volume selection

Move Volumes Segment directly after "World Begin"

Set code line for World Exterior Volume directly before "WorldEnd"
