Need help: let’s make Blender more visible on iTunes

The BSG (Blender Survival Guide) is now completely available on iTunes as part of the COW Podcast. Making a program like Blender takes enormous amount of time and resources. It’s a very expensive operation that relies on the generosity of people. More people know about Blender, more people will be likely to buy books and tutorials from the Blender Foundation and in doing so they help the development of the program.

Please help me increase the awareness of Blender by subscribing, rating and voting for this podcast. With enough attention the podcast will be featured in the main page of iTunes and that can attract more people who don’t know yet about Blender. My goal is to get in the top 50 of the technology section. It doesn’t cost you anything, the Podcast is free, but it will greatly help in making Blender a global success.

Thank you!

    Hi Paolo,

Just wanted to say what a fantastic Newbies guide to blender you’ve made. I’ve only been using Blender a few days now and this is the best tutorial I’ve found. I’m up to episode 10 and just had to stop by and congratulate you on such a well presented set of Videos. Hope to see more in the future.

I’ve just put a review and rating up on iTunes for you. Hope you get many more.

    Russell

    Hi Russel.
Thank you very much for your feedback and review. Yes, the p,an is for many more. I’m just taking a short break to take care of a few programs that I’m writing and then I’ll release more tutorials on a series of topics that I believe you’ll find interesting.

I’ve just stumbled upon your tutorials on iTunes and immediately subscribed. I’m very new to Blender and am coming from a somewhat After Effects background and your teaching style is perfect! Thank you so much for your videos- I’ll be telling everyone!

Hi Paolo, Quick question – in one of your earlier tutorials you mentioned the default settings file that stores our layout. The problem is I cannot find a .B.blend file anywhere on my Macbook Pro? Thanks, Mark

mark, it should be in your home folder. The Finder will nit show it because, well, it’s hidden. You have to open th Terminal and use “ls -a .B.blend” to see it

Thanks Paolo. This ‘Hide/Unhide’ widget really helps too: http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/developer/hiddenfiles.html @Pret-A-3D

Fantastic set of Bender tutorials! Thank you for mentioning differences between v2.49 and v2.5. I’m rendering my animation from part 5 at the moment and had a question for you. What if we don’t have After Effects? Isn’t it possible to use Blender itself to create the animation using the sequencer? or some other method? I’ll keep watching the tutorials, maybe you cover it in another episode. Thanks again for the great intro!

    Hi Ron.
Yes, that is actually a very good question. You can render everything in Blender as a sequence of images and then import the sequence in the Video Sequence Editor. Blender understand sequence of images and reads them as a single clip. From the VSE you can add soundtrac and effects and then ouput everything as a QuickTime file. You could get a QT file directly from the render but by using the image sequence you take advantage of two things: a) if the render crashes of the power goes down, you can restart from where it was interrupted. b) You can use the VSE to composite a background with the rendered scene.
Just be sure, when you render the output from the VSE that you have “Do Sequence” active in the Scene settings.
