Blender 2.49b – EDL support
Blender 2.49b has been released today. You gotta love how marketing-unaware geeks are. I say this with love, it shows innocence
. Deep down in the list of updates there is a gem that is worth a thousand pictures. Literally. EDL support. EDL stands, of course, for Editing Decision List and it’s the format used to export/import editing sequences from programs like Adobe Premiere, Apple Final Cut and Avid, among other things. This basically means that you can take a sequence of shots that you have edited in, say, Premiere, avoid exporting the video completely, simply export the sequence as a EDL, which is a very small text file, import it in Blender and then add your 3D elements from there. With the addition of 3D tracking from programs like Syntheyes, this has the potential to be a real time-saver for any 3D integration work.
Not sure if this feature works as I hope, I’ll do some testing and report here. Stay tuned. In the meantime download Blender from the official site.
