They are advertising G8 as having backwards compatibility. But I do not have any idea what exactly that means.
My quick take so far is that the face is supposed to be significantly improved, better expressions, better wrinkles and creases around the eyes etc.
Ill stick with G3 for a while yet as Im very comfortable working with that generation (and G2 to a lesser degree, I like G3 better).
Having said that, I do like new toys:)
And thanks for the quick preset DsinR, will have to have a look-see now.

Also, it appears the 4.9.4 requirement has to do with the figures surfaces, people have managed to load G8 in 4.8 (and 4.6), you get an error while loading but the figure then loads anyway. So that requirement might not apply to Reality users if we can just set up the surfaces as usual anyway.

Re: Genesis 8
In terms of backward-compatibility, it is still rather limited. G8 loads with a default A-pose rather than T-pose which breaks many legacy poses. (Although a converter plugin is already in-the-works) and as many have observed, the clothes fitting is atrocious. More importantly, you cannot transfer morphs from G3 to G8. Unfortunately, since the creator of GenX plugin recently passed, a G3-G8 update is unlikely. Having invested in so much content for G3 and the marginal improvements on G8, upgrading just doesn't seem feasible right now.

I like what I'm seeing so far...
G8 has a slightly lower poly count than G3 which, as far as I can see, makes it use less RAM, but properly subdivided it still renders really nicely.

Re: Genesis 8
After testing Victoria 8 for a day, I have to conclude that there really isn't enough difference between her and Victoria 7 for V8 to be called V8. More like V7.3. We gain HD expressions. Way cool. We gain geografted eyelashes. Okay. Why? We gain a base figure who is three inches taller than V6 and V7. Isn't 5'11" tall enough? We gain a more primitive mesh that is even further removed from natural human topology than V7. And I can't convert my V7 characters to V8 without major effort. A 22 year old V7 looks 40 in V8. So, I dropped $40 on an experiment. It was money well spent, really. It told me to wait for Victoria 9. Hey, I bought a Hyundai in 1986! I'm 6'4". You do the math on that. So, I've spent more on less.
