Light

Postby Marcel2586 » Wed Jun 08, 2016 8:07 am

I have made a spotlight in lightwave and i want it to use in Studio/Poser.
I have tried to apply the Iray light emissive shader, but then Reality crashes and you need to close Daz studio and start again. (very hard to reproduce, so i leave it that way, and will not report it as bug)
I know how to change the plane from the spotlight into a mesh light in Reality. But i want to make a prop. When i load the spotlight it behave itself as the mesh lights provided with Reality. So my question is,how do i turn my obj into a ready to use mesh light.

Here the spotlight.OBJ in zip

You have to turn it into Poser or Studio prop and then call the part that emits light RealityLight_suffix. Where _suffix is a string of your choice.

No, that file is not seen at all. You need to set the material zone.

I found it in poser, thanks.
Just one more question, it turns the outer-shell also to light, how can i make these not emitting light?

That depends on how the material is set. You need to restrict the number of polygons to a given area. It sounds like you need to split a portion of your model into two different materials.

In my experience mesh lights are much better than objects with emission defined, at least that was what I saw when I did the new lights in . Although I'm not quite sure about the big differences between emissive and mesh light.

I can add that it is very important to keep the number of surfaces in the mesh light part as low as possible(2-8), because each surface will become a mesh light. Round shapes will probably require 16-24 surfaces, but that really should be max.

If you're creating a new mesh light, it would be a nice touch, if you add a handle for pin pointing and maybe a camera to control it

Curious about your new light 8-)

Thank you Sigstan, i have made a mesh light, but i was standing completely blank in it.
I tried all kinds of settings in Studio itself, but thanks to Mr. Paolo i was pushed in the right direction.
I had to rename my light surface to RealityLight_whatever in Lightwave/blender. Then import it and Reality immediately recognize it as mesh light.
now i have to figure out how to make the handles and pin point. any help is really appreciated.
