SmartIBL is a format that defines how to configure a 3D scene for rendering using IBL maps.
Reality 3.1 for Poser includes support for SmartIBL and in this video we see how easy is to use a SmartIBL set downloaded from hdrlabs.com.
With SmartIBL we can light the scene and create the background all with one single click. The result is a scene of high realism, all done with just a couple of clicks of the mouse.
This is an amazing capability. I look forward to trying it with Terradome sets some time.
It’s also good to see the Bonaventure Hotel again in the background. I went to a couple of conventions there many years ago. 🙂
Incredible and wonderful … very nice tutorial Paolo
Glad you liked it.
Paolo.. I know you don’t have the time or energy to remember how every single user renders and what their skill set is.. .but, since my beginnings with DS4 and Reality2.. I started using ibl’s as a crutch to achieve higher render speeds when I had a slow computer. Now that I’ve had a bigger and much faster computer for well over a year; I find myself continuing to go to ibl’s just due to the simplicity of use. You’ve outdone yourself with how easy you made sibl to use with Poser. Since going back to Poser; I was missing my daz studio ibl preview sphere and was happy to get it back in 3.1 for poser. You’ve outdone yourself, though, with this complete integration. Now I want to go out and find every ibl package I can possibly find and try ’em out. It helps too that R3.1 reads the ibl file and determines the correct file to use as that was always a guessing game for me.
Hi Dwayne.
Glad you like it. sIBL is really a nice idea and I wanted to have a better integration for some time. With the new Reality 3 architecture this is possible. With all the sIBL sets that are available this is really a boon for Poser artists. It basically integrates sIBL in Poser.
I’m looking forward to seeing that people will do with it.
Thanks again.
Great tutorial am looking forward to using this
Really cool. I have a couple of questions. When the Reality plug-in gets updated in DAZ will it have the same material choices that I see in my Poser version?
Also – any idea why there are no ACEL’s for Michael 5, 6, etc?
Can you render a scene, with the lighting from a particular sIBL, but have the IBL image itself not render? I’d love to be able to easily pick an sIBL that has the lighting I want, and then take that rendered scene and composite into another scene, i.e. from Vue.
Hello. Glad that you liked the video.
Reality will be one single program with identical features, no matter what host (DAZ Studio or Poser) you use. So, the answer to #1 is yes.
Michael 5 and 6 came out after Reality 2.5 so it’s up to somebody in the community to make ACSEL shaders for them and share them. The system is ready.
About sIBL, yes, you just have to enable the Alpha Channel support in the scene options.
Cheers.
